Product Description
Chord Epic streaming ethernet cable is nothing like a standard network cable. Network cables are generally not optimised to stream audio, and can pick up all kinds of interference. This noise can degrade digital audio signals and although a digital signal is 1s and 0s, this can cause dropouts and this can consequently result in a mushy sound.
As a result, the Chord Epic streaming cable is made of high quailty silver plated conductors. They also use high speed capable, insulation materials and high density separate pair shielding. Chord has also developed the ARAY conductor geometry. ARAY is specially designed to shield out noise and prevent crosstalk.
Why streaming cables?
Nowadays most audio is streamed over a network. Consequently, digital audio is being sent over long cables that were not intended for audio. Moreover, hi-res audio has a high data rate that can be degraded by high-resistance cables.
There is also the consideration that the RJ45 connector was designed for telephone use. Chord uses a custom RJ45 plug, which can be soldered directly, to ensure a good connection.
Chord believe that a good quality streaming cable will make your system sound more musically coherent, involving and detailed as the signal should be more stable reducing the chance of dropouts and the resulting consequences of this. A variety of lengths are available.
