Product Description
Chord PowerHAUS M6 mains conditioner uses high grade components and is designed to remove any noise and interference from your mains supply. The aluminium case is designed to reduce microphony and block high frequency noise, all in an effort to try and deliver a cleaner sound from your audio equipment. A sophisticated wiring layout means that no filtering is needed - cables are paralleled and sockets are isolated, preventing any crossover of noise signals.
High grade components and aluminium case
The M6 mains conditioner uses components that have been specially manufactured to be the best in class. There are no switches or neon power indicators that can induce noise and the solid aluminium chassis should reduce the effects of microphony. There are also no filters on the outputs. This is a heavy, well made unit with padded feet. The M6 and S6 are hand assembled in the U.K.
Chord ARRAY technology
Chord have a great knowledge of signal and power transfer. As a result, they have developed two mains conditioners designed to remove any noise from the mains supply. Rather than use filters they use the HAUS system. HAUS stands for Hybrid Array Unfiltered Supply. This uses a sophisticated wiring layout to remove noise and prevent anything from disturbing your listening experience.
Heavy gauge cables and reliable sockets
The cables are specially selected and are heavy gauge. This reduces their resistance and enhances current carrying capability. Additionally, the sockets are chosen for their reliability and were tested by Chord for sound performance. Finally the IEC input socket is rated at 16A meaning that the unit can handle the most demanding audio systems.
Chord Mains Range
There are two models in the PowerHaus series, the S6 and the M6. The M6 is the best performing as it uses three hybrid MainsARAYs fitted in parallel (rather than in series) to the bus bars. This removes high-frequency noise or RFI. Three isolated bus bars are used. Notably, the earth bus is kept well away from live and Neutral. Many years of product development have gone into the PowerHAUS series.
Why a mains conditioner?
Most areas will have interference on the mains supply. In urban areas electrical noise comes from computers, fridges, and other domestic appliances. In the countryside farm machinery nearby can generate a lot of mains noise. Mains conditioners are designed to clean the supply resulting in clearer and sharper sound. You cannot usually hear the noise directly but it adds a kind of grainy mush to the overall sound. This will muffle the detail and emotion of the music. The PowerHAUS series uses high grade wiring instead of filters to clean the mains input.
Listening tests
In subjective tests the M6 makes an audible difference to the sound. Even where there is low mains noise the sound has more clarity and the resolution is enhanced. Stereo imaging is more accurate. With the M6 the wiring is shielded so that any powerful local radio stations will not affect the mains supply. Finally, the units meet or exceed all safety regulation.
