Product Description
Chord PowerHAUS S6 Mains Block is one of the first mains units available from the same company who are well known for their speaker and audio cables.
The heavy aluminium casing of the S6 reduces noise and interference and the proprietary internal components are specially manufactured. The six-way unit does not use noise inducing switches or neon indicators. Additionally, the clarity of the sound will improve and stereo imaging will be more solid.
Chord ARRAY Technology
The power supply to your audio components affects the sound. As a result Chord have used their knowledge of signal and power transfer to develop two mains block conditioners. The S6 features the HAUS system. HAUS stands for Hybrid Array Unfiltered Supply and this is designed to get rid of any noise on the supply, that may disturb your listening experience.
Leading Build Quality
The Chord PowerHAUS S6 is hand built in England and is housed in an aluminium casing. The S6 features a heavy duty 16A input. This a chunky and heavy unit with padded feet on each corner. Every component is specifically manufactured for the S6 and M6. Leading to no compromise in performance. Quality is maintained by having no switches or neon indicators. These can generate noise. Additionally, the aluminium casing reduces microphony.
Heavy Gauge Wiring and Sockets
The internal wiring uses high quality, heavy gauge cable that is capable of handling high currents without loss. The sockets are not only robust but chosen for their sound quality. The 16A IEC input will cope with high power amplifiers with ease. The S6 is the entry level unit(Studio) while the M6 is the hi-end (master) unit. These units are the result of one of the longest product development processes undertaken by Chord. Star wiring is not used instead three separate bus bars are used. Additionally, the mains bus is kept as far as possible, away from the live and neural buses.
Why Mains Conditioning?
Depending on where you live there is always noise and interference on the mains supply. This noise can get into audio components degrading the clarity and quality of the sound. Mains conditioners are designed to eliminate this noise. Rural areas especially can be prone to noise from agricultural machinery.
While in towns and cities you are surrounded by electrical noise from Computers, fridges and other domestic appliances. You cannot hear the interference directly but it can have an effect on the audio. It can add a kind of grainy mush that hides detail and the emotion of the music. There are basically two types of conditioners one type uses filters and the other, as with the S6, uses high grade wiring, components and careful design.
Listening tests
Listening is subjective but the S6 can make a difference to sound quality, even in relatively “clean” areas where the mains is not subject to a lot of interference. Sound clarity and resolution are enhanced while stereo imaging is more solid. The wiring is shielded against RFI using the ARAY system. This reduces any High frequency noise as well as earth noise. The units meet or exceed all power safety regulations. We can only suggest trying one for yourself with the benefit of our 30 day money back guarantee.
