Product Description
Emotiva BasX A1 monoblock power amplifier is an excellent addition to the Emotiva range and a fantastic value mono power amplifier.
BasX A1 can deliver 200 Watts into 8 Ohms and 325 watts into 4 Ohms. The distortion is only 0.02%, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 112dB. There is a heavy duty linear power supply with a toroidal Transformer. This powers a high-power class A/B amplifier module. With this much power, the outputs feature transparent fault protection. The unit can also be switched on remotely via the trigger input.
The BasX A1 can be doubled up in a stereo set-up and combined with any preamplifier or streamer with pre – or can be used in a multi-channel AV setup and combined with AV processor or AV receiver with pre out. It features five way speaker terminals that can take 4mm plugs, spade connectors or bare wire. Finally, the X1 assures absolute channel separation and gives audiophile performance at a great price. The sleek minimalist look allows for easy unobtrusive placement as well as stacking.
Audiophile sound quality
BasX A1 is designed to be stable in all situations. The main design aim was sound quality and this amplifier sounds great with all types of music. The quality Class A/B output delivers smooth, detailed sound with natural imaging, and no no harshness or strain. The input stages have a low noise, wide bandwidth design, that pulls out all of the detail from high definition sources. Finally, the Monoblock design completely isolates all of the channels
Quality construction
The power supply features an oversized toroidal transformer that can deliver enough current to drive even difficult speakers. The construction is designed to last, and only top quality audiophile parts are used. The heavy steel chassis and milled aluminium faceplate will ensure the amplifier lasts for many years. Notably, the Double sided FR4 circuit boards have optimised signal paths and are plated through holes. This minimises the need for point-to-point wiring.
Good connectivity
The unbalanced RCA connection allows the unit to be connected to any preamplifier. A set of BasX A1’s can also be connected to the line level outputs of an AV receiver. For example the centre dialogue or surround channels. The trigger input allows the AV receiver to switch all the amplifiers on remotely, at the same time. Moreover, the output terminals are high-grade and can take any kind of connector or just bare wires. With so much power you also need a good protection system for your speakers. The BasX A1 has protection that is instant but completely transparent to the end user.
Why monoblocks?
There are several reasons why monoblock amplifiers are a good idea. One is that monoblock amplifiers can be placed close to the speaker in use, so that lead lengths are kept short. There is also the idea of fault tolerance. If one amplifier fails, you are only down one channel, not three or four. They also tend to be smaller than multichannel amps, as well as easier to carry. Next is channel separation, you cannot get more channel separation than a monoblock amp. Finally, with constantly changing surround sound formats, monoblocs make it easy to add another channel or two.
