Product Description
The Martin Logan Motion XT F100 Speakers (Pair) are the first floor standing speakers in the Motion range and offers the Gen 2 Folded Motion tweeter as well as a reinforced Kevlar midrange, and triple 6.5”, aluminium woofers. The stunning look is enhanced by the Folded motion waveguide and copper ringed drivers. Moreover, the Kevlar midrange unit offers improved resonance reduction while the triple woofers give a powerful and dynamic bass performance. This is an impressive speaker and a great upgrade option. The power handling is up to 450 watts.
The Motion range
The Motion range comprises bookshelf and floor standing speakers, as well as specialised speakers for surround sound setups. It is an ambitious project that defines elegance and performance. Forty years of experience along with exclusive technologies have resulted in a range of quailty and excellence. The Martin Logan sound is designed to provide exceptional realism, articulation and detail. Finally, innovative technologies, such as the Folded Motion tweeter and Kevlar woofer can give an unparalleled listening experience.
Gen 2 folded motion tweeter
The Motion XT F100 Speakers has been upgraded with the Gen 2 Obsidian tweeter. As a result, the motor is larger and it gives a higher output with less distortion. The 40% increase in surface area also provides an effortless and detailed sound. On the back of this. the Motion XT F100 Speakers offers the most accurate high frequency delivery to date. Additionally, the waveguide that surrounds the tweeter was developed, after looking at over 50 design possibilities. The square, concave shape can give a good match to the dispersion properties of the woofer. It’s designed to give a balanced sound regardless of the listening position.
Speaker construction
Most conventional speakers share the same construction. A metal basket is used to hold the other components. These comprise, the cone, voice coil and magnet. The cone was originally made of paper, but nowadays could be made of Fibreglass or carbon fibre. At the end of the cone a cylindrical protrusion is used to hold the voice coil winding. The voice coil can have an impedance of between 4 and 12 Ohms. It is the voice coil that causes the cone to move, generating sound. Finally, there is a permanent magnet that has a circular groove cut in it, this energizes the coil.
Who are Martin Logan?
Martin Logan are best known for their electrostatic speakers. The company was founded in the late 1970’s and are based in Canada. They developed several technologies, that made electrostatic speakers a practical proposition. This included the curvilinear shape, to prevent beaming, and a built-in woofer for the low frequencies. They also innovate with more conventional speakers, by using the Folded Motion tweeter and Kevlar conned woofer.
