Product Description
Melco C100 CAT6 ethernet cable has been designed for Melco’s range of music libraries, which deserve very good quality Ethernet cables for connecting to your network.
Melco’s audiophile music libraries and ethernet network switches are designed to reduce noise as much as possible. Therefore it makes no sense to use a standard lesser-spec Ethernet cable to connect them which isn’t shielded and could pick up all kinds of noise.
This C100 Ethernet cable has several features that eliminate noise, including a special grounding system and thicker than normal conductors. Several lengths are available.
Asymmetric shielding
The C100 ethernet cable has several features designed to reduce noise. The first is asymmetric drain wire grounding. This method grounds one end of the built-in shield. This causes any interference signals, from connected devices, to travel in one direction, and be shorted to the ground. The grounded end of the cable is indicated by the Melco logo. In this way, the delicate audio signal remains clean. The other end of the cable has a floating shield, that is not connected to the ground. As a result and noise cannot be introduced into the connected device.
Gold plated connectors
Gold is one of the best conductors of electrical signals there is and it does not tarnish or corrode. That makes gold one of the best materials to plate electrical connections with. C100 has gold-plated connectors as well as a smooth outer cable to avoid tangling. The thickness of the conductors has also been increased for lower resistance. Finally, the C100 cable has a wide bandwidth rated at 600Mhz, this is six times faster than a CAT 5e cable.
About Melco
Melco began in 1975 as an audio company. They made the best quality audio components of the time and introduced a ground-breaking turntable in 1980. Later they moved into the computer peripherals market and became one of the largest component manufacturers in Japan. Today they specialize in Network connected and stand alone digital music libraries. They also make audio specific networking components such as Network switches and specialized cabling.
What is a music Library or server?
Melco makes some of the most purist digital music libraries as well as optimized drives for ripping CDs. A music library consists of an HDD or SSD, for storing music, and the necessary electronics to encode the music files. They can be one-box or two-box units. The flagship model has a completely separate power supply. The Melco libraries are designed to be used with an external DAC, amplifier with DAC or streamer.
Home networks
Home networks are noisy places, electrically, and not ideal for distributing delicate audio signals. As a result Melco also makes high-end network switches that are designed to prevent any interference with the audio signal. Finally, for the ultimate in clean audio networking, you can use a fibre-optic network by using an adapter kit.
