The full movie experience
This is Musical Fidelity's first home theatre multi-channel amplifier. Since the 1980's surround sound in the home has become an important part of the movie experience. To hear and feel what the director intended, you need real headroom and dynamics. The Musical Fidelity M6x 250.7 will provide that performance to all seven channels in a clean and compact unit.
Connections
The M6x 250.7 has quality input options such as gold plated RCA connectors and balanced XLR inputs. We recommend using balanced inputs if your preamp has them. The signal will have less noise, a better dynamic range and a better signal to noise ratio. Additionally the RCA inputs can be used for bi-amping. Each amplifier module has isolated speaker terminals that can take 4mm banana plugs, spades connectors of bare wire. Finally the trigger input / output can be used to turn the unit on or off via other components.
Power amplifier modules
Each power amplifier module Features a separate class A/B, 250w amplifier, giving 1750 w in total. The M6x 250.7 has been designed with enough power to deal with transients, for example explosions, as well as keeping micro information such as ambient sounds. The THD + N of 0.003 per cent with 100 watts power output ensures great performance at high volume levels.
What is class A/B ?
The best audio amplifiers are class A, they are known as single ended, as they use a single transistor or tube. However Class A amplifiers use a lot of power and are inefficient, needing lots of current to operate. Most amplifiers are therefore class B. Class B amplifiers are more efficient and use two output transistors. The main issue with class B amplifiers is that they have to switch on each half cycle of the audio signal. This can cause crossover distortion. The Musical Fidelity M6x 250.7 uses the class A/ B system. This gives the best of both worlds with class A Fidelity and class B efficiency.
Power supply
The power supply features two large toroidal transformers that can supply the necessary high currents required by the amplifier modules. These silent transformers deliver clean power, that maintains a high dynamic range and a detailed sound stage. This is important for a home cinema amplifier. The M6x 250.7 will keep you immersed and enhance the emotion of a scene. Another feature is the sophisticated cooling system. This means that the unit does not have any fan noise to spoil those intimate scenes.
