Product Description
Pro-Ject Dark Side of the Moon turntable has been released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Pink Floyd's iconic Dark Side of The Moon albumThis turntable is Inspired by the album artwork, reproducing the dynamics and colours of the original album, along with a triangular plinth, representing the iconic prism from the album cover.
The prism reflects rainbow-coloured light into space. The tonearm is mounted onto the rays of light. Only high-quality materials are used. The plinth is made of MDF which has the best anti-resonance properties.
Also, the platter rotates on a stainless steel axle that sits in a precision bronze bushing. A flat silicone belt is driven by an AC motor.
A quality build
The high-quality design of the Pro-Ject Dark Side of the Moon Turntable begins with a 28mm MDF plinth On this sits an 8.6” acrylic tonearm with spring anti-skating. Next, there is a dimmable rainbow backlight.
The speed switch is also part of the design and the speed is electronically controlled. Gold-plated phono connectors are provided as is a quality semi-circular phono cable. Finally, the heavy glass platter has an aluminium sub-plater that rides on a precision bearing.
Unique acrylic tonearm
One of the more eye-catching features of the Pro-Ject Dark Side of the Moon Turntable is the acrylic and black aluminium tonearm. This is a completely unique design and comes with a tuned special edition Pick it PRO cartridge.
The sound is rich and precise. Anti-skate is used to prevent the stylus from being pulled to the centre of the record. This can cause uneven channel balance as well as excess groove wear.
Incorrect anti-skate settings can also cause distortion on the tracks closest to the centre of the record.
Supplied cartridge
The Pick it PRO cartridge is made by Ortofon and tuned by Pro-Ject. It is a moving magnet type that is compatible with most phono stages and amplifiers.
Moving magnet cartridges have a tiny magnet mounted on the end of the cantilever that holds the stylus. This sits inside two coils that generate the audio signal. Moving magnet cartridges have a relatively high output of around 5mV and an impedance of 47K.
Moving coil cartridges are also available. However, they have a much lower output and need additional amplification. However, they have the advantage of better tracking at high frequencies.
