Product Description
Q Acoustics 5040 speakers are floorstanders of distinction, offering a big sound from compact cabinets that have a modest footprint. This makes them perfect for smaller rooms without compromising on sound or style.
They feature two of Q Acoustics renowned continuous curved bass/midrange drivers. The tweeter is an enclosed 25mm design that produces accurate and sweet treble. Two advanced technologies are used - point-to-point bracing in the cabinets as well as a Helmholtz pressure equalizer which reduces resonance.
They are available in the same finishes as the other speakers in the 5000 range.
Advanced bass driver
The 5040 features two advanced continuously curved bass/midrange drivers. These need a powerful motor to drive them to their full advantage. They have larger than normal magnets and large voice coils. This gives an increased power handling, up by 50%. The 5040s can handle amplifiers up to 150 watts. They also have a wide dynamic range with punchy and accurate bass response.
Sealed unit tweeter
The 5000 range uses a sealed unit tweeter. This has several advantages, the main one is that there are no pressure modulations, that could interfere with the bass driver. Secondly, the 25mm tweeter is isolated or floating on the baffle, for more vibration resistance. Finally, the lower chamber is vented to lower distortion and the crossover point is lower. The result is better integration with the bass driver.
Point-to-point bracing
The cabinet of the 5040 features point-to-point bracing. The bracing supports parts of the enclosure, such as the baffle, that need to resist vibration. The new enclosure is exceptionally rigid. Consequently, the focus of the stereo image is improved as well as the accuracy of the soundstage. There is also a pressure equalization port.
Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer
The pressure inside a speaker enclosure can be a problem, especially with taller speakers. As a result, the 5040 uses a Helmholtz Pressure Equalizer. This is a type of vent that reduces cabinet resonance. Resonance is caused when the enclosure starts to vibrate at a certain frequency.
An elegant design
The 5040 is an attractive design available in four finishes. gloss black, gloss white, light wood or dark wood. The baffle fronts are coated with butyl rubber and a black acrylic trim. The rubber suppresses any vibration and provides a counterpoint to the cabinet design. There are also spiked feet and a stabiliser, that enhance the looks even more.
Who are Q Acoustics?
Q Acoustics have rapidly established itself with a range of well-received speakers. They were founded in 2007 and began with the 1000 series, following on with the 2000 and later the 3000 series. These competitively priced speaker ranges became best sellers and the range now includes even more speakers. The current range includes affordable passive speakers, home cinema, and active systems.
