Product Description
The Revela 1 speaker is the first new design from Quad since 2016. Notably, it still uses Quad’s renowned corner ribbon tweeter for stunning highs. However new materials have made the performance even more breathtaking.
The Quad Revela 1 speaker is a two-way stand-mounted design and comes in luxurious lacquered black or walnut finishes. The power handling is 120 watts with a frequency response of 54 Hz - 14kHz. Finally, A specially designed stand is also available.
True Ribbon high frequency driver
The Revela 1 speaker uses the latest iteration of the ribbon tweeter that was first used in 1949. However new materials have enhanced the tweeter's performance and this new version took four years to develop. Ribbon tweeters have several advantages over dome tweeters. They feature a thin aluminium foil as the driver. This is placed in a high-strength magnetic field.
The ribbon is then energized by the audio signal. This type of driver does not suffer from breakup and resonance as do dome types. Moreover, there is a larger sound-emitting surface that has one-tenth the mass of a dome tweeter. As a result, the sound is precise and clean with a high transient response.
The original ribbon was relatively fragile and could only handle 15 watts. However, the new design can be used with modern music sources and has a reinforced sandwich construction. The most subtle variations of the music are reproduced.
Superior mid/ bass from a new driver material
A new driver material is used for the Quad Revela 1 speaker. This is a unique formulation of wood pulp and artificial fibre with a transparent and detailed output. The new cone material for the Reveal drivers, enhances the already good performance of paper cones by further damping and strengthening the cone.
The result is a smoothing of the upper midrange and better bass control.
The Quad Revela 1 speaker features a single 165mm bass/midrange unit that is built into a cast chassis. Additionally, there is a high-powered magnet and voice coil. This creates a driver with high sensitivity and good power handling. Next, the cones have been carefully bonded to rubber surrounds.
The surrounds damp any resonances in the upper part of the frequency range. This allows the crossovers to accurately match the ribbon treble unit.
A refined Butterworth crossover unit
Hundreds of hours of listening tests have been used to refine the sound of the Quad Revela 1 speaker’s crossover network. This creates a seamless blend between the drive units. The result is an effortless, dynamic, and room-filling sound.
Carefully designed cabinets
The Quad Revela 1 speaker cabinets are designed with optimally stressed and braced panels. Additionally, they have curved edges that reduce any unwanted diffraction effects. The rear-firing bass port features longitudinal splines that help to smooth the airflow. This is designed to increase the efficiency of the airflow and boost bass response.
Next, the internal damping material is made from a mixture of acoustic foam and long-hair fibre. This absorbs internal reflections and standing waves without affecting the bass response.
Cabinet finish
The black version of the cabinet features multiple layers of lacquer over a deep black veneer. This provides a lustrous finish and is designed to protect the cabinet and dampen any vibration. The walnut finish version has a piano black front panel. While the sides and rear are made of interlocked wood veneer.
Optional stands
Attractive stands have been specially designed for the Quad Revela 1 speaker. These are designed to place the speakers at the ideal listening height and damp any vibration. The stands are made of laminated wood which has good self-damping properties. The finish is lacquered to match the speaker cabinets. Additionally, the steel base is supported by four large stainless steel spikes. Feet are also provided for hard floors.
