Product Description
Sennheiser HD 660S2 headphones improve upon the already excellent HD 660S with a revised voice coil. The impedance of 300-Ohms now matches the renowned HD600 and HD650. A new reference point under £1000, these are the next best thing in the Sennheiser range to the HD800S, making them very good value indeed.
The new voice coil is more powerful and has better electrical damping, to give cleaner impulse response. The design is open backed and there is a larger diaphragm with a surround which is more compliant. A steel mesh backing allows for fine tolerance construction and a consistent sound. As a result of these changes the bass response has been doubled but with a more balanced sound overall.
Open Backed Design
The open backed design has been matched with a new transducer to reproduce frequency stretching modern recordings with ease. The revised aluminium voice coil and 42mm diaphragm is nimble and gives an ultra-fast impulse fidelity. As a result the sound has precise tonal and spatial characteristics. Of course like most high end headphones, open backed headphones allow sound to leak out but the benefit is a more spacious listening experience that sounds wider, allowing the music to breathe.
New Compliant Surround
The HD 660S2 surround has been made more compliant. This lowers the resonant frequency to 70Hz. Much development went into optimizing the airflow around the transducer. As a result there is better sensitivity over the entire frequency range. Bass has been doubled and the HD 660S2 has even better precision, speed, and resolution.
Steel Mesh Drive Units
The steel mesh backing of the HD 660S2 completes the ventilated driver. They work together to control the air flow giving better displacement. This reduces turbulence. As a result, the diaphragm is free to travel letting the music breathe. The steel mesh allows for very tight production tolerances. Thus, each HD660S2 has a consistent sound. The ear cups are of exceptional build quality and comfort.
Versatile Drivers
The Sennheiser HD 660S2 has been optimised for a wide range of devices the impedance has been revised to 300 Ohms. The larger magnet makes them easier to drive. As a result, the headphones are the perfect partner for separate amplifiers and digital audio players. The low frequency range extends down to 8Hz while high frequencies extend beyond 40kHz.
Great Connectivity
The HD 660S2 has a good choice of connectivity with balanced and unbalanced jack plugs. There is a standard 6.3mm stereo connector with a 3m cable. This can be used for devices such as headphone amplifiers, AV receivers and digital audio players. However, the HD 660S2 also has option of a balanced 4.4mm connector cable (available separately) which is a perfect match for the increasing number of headphone amps that accommodate this. A balanced connection gives a lower noise floor and better dynamic range.
