Product Description
The System Audio SIlverback Solo Subwoofer is designed to go with the System Audio SIlverback range of speakers and accessories. The subwoofer has the same easy-to-live-with looks and does not dominate the room. However, there is also a black version for other systems. Modern technology makes the unit smaller and, as it is wireless, there are no trailing cables.
It can be used in a Silverback system and with the Stereo Hub. Setup is done via the System audio SA Cockpit app. Notably, this subwoofer will add a deep soundstage and amazing punch. Lastly, the Solo has four 150-watt Class D amplifiers, two can be used to add a further subwoofer with the Sub Duo.
Easy to place
Wall mounting or floor placement can be used for the System Audio Silverback Solo Subwoofer. Brackets are available for wall fixing and the only cable needed is the power cable. Silverback technology uses a digital signal processor to deliver deep bass without needing an enormous cabinet. This is done by having a dual voice coil driver and two amplifiers.
Even at low volume, the bass is improved. Moreover, the SA cockpit app can add room correction as well as tweak the subwoofer's performance. The speaker cone has a long throw and is driven by two 150-watt class D amplifiers. The System Audio Silverback Solo Subwoofer can also be used in a corner for enhanced output.
Class D amplifiers
Class D amplifiers are commonly used for high-powered active speakers. Class D is up to 90% efficient and does not generate as much heat as linear amplifiers. The output consists of a number of high-frequency pulses.
This is known as Pulse Frequency Modulation. The closer together the pulses are the higher the output. The output transistors are fast-switching MOSFETS that can handle the high frequencies needed. The audio is recovered by using a low pass filter on the output.
Connecting a subwoofer
The System Audio SIlverback Solo Subwoofer is designed to connect wirelessly to the SA Stereo Hub. This is a control centre unit that will connect your devices wirelessly to Silverback speakers. There is, however, also a standard RCA input.
Most subwoofers connect to the subwoofer output of an AV receiver or amplifier. Moreover, some budget subwoofers will have a speaker-level input that can be used with older amplifiers, that do not have a subwoofer output.
