Product Description
Wharfedale Denton 85 Anniversary Speakers (Pair) in Walnut is a classic bookshelf dual-way design with elegantly hand-veneered cabinets in walnut with an inset front baffle and classic Tungsten cloth grille. It showcases the principles of founder Gilbert Briggs who made Wharfedale one of the most famous loudspeaker brands in the world by concentrating on quality and value for money.
Cutting-edge Performance
Beyond the conventional exterior, Denton 85th Anniversary fuses a mixture of traditional and latest advanced technology. The bass unit has an innovative woven Kevlar cone fixed on a rigid die-cast chassis and delivers a rich, detailed bass/midrange output with remarkable dynamic performance.
Advanced Engineering
Highs are processed by a woven soft dome treble unit with high flux ferrite magnet, engineered for smooth, detailed HF extension. Drive units are combined by a near-audible crossover resulting in a coherent, seamless musical output that is both engaging and natural in its rendition of any source material.
Denton 80 vs Denton 85
This 85th edition showcases latest advancements and further upgrades the already hugely impressive 80th Anniversary speaker. Available in the same finishes, the main difference is in the Denton 85 swapping out the 5" woven kevlar cone for a 6.5" variation of the same material and replacing the 1" textile tweeter for a soft dome design. The result is higher sensitivity to facilitate more demanding hifi components, better crossover and wider frequency spectrum.
Based on Original Denton
The original Denton was well known for its warm, rich and natural sounding character and the 85th Anniversary Edition retains that character but imbues it with an open, detailed performance that will entice you to explore your entire music collection

I have been playing music through them for less than 24 hours and clearly they will not be properly run in. That said my initial impressions are very good indeed, the speakers present a fulsome bass that belies their size, good dynamics and scale with nice clear top-end. Drums, vocals, high-hats are clear and instrument separation good. I've thrown Rap, Classical, Jazz & Rock at these speakers and all sound just fine. What I'm most impressed with about them is that they provide a sense of theatre, unlike some speakers which just replicate sound, these give a sense of occasion to music. They are engaging in that respect. I have had many speakers over the years and these are quite different in that regard.
Will post a second review in a couple of weeks should my impressions change.
