Product Description
Emotiva BasX MC1 AV processor is a 13.2 channel multi-channel processor, that can control all of your home cinema system’s sound and video switching with the latest sound modes, a high performance unit at an affordable price point.
It has six of the latest 4K capable HDMI video inputs as well as two HDMI outputs for your tv screen or projector. MC1 has a 13.2 surround sound processor and can handle UHD video, HDR and Dolby Vision formats. Sound formats include Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X. It also has eARC support and automatic room correction. There is also a wide range of analogue inputs as well as digital optical and coaxial.
Great Connectivity
MC1 has six RCA analogue inputs as well as two optical and two coaxial digital inputs. There is a also HD Bluetooth capability. Two HDMI outputs are followed by Six HDMI inputs for your video components such as Blu-ray players or games consoles. There is also a USB input for external hard drives or a laptop connection.
Each of the thirteen audio channels has its own gold plated RCA output that can be connected to your choice of multi-channel amplification. There are also a couple of balanced XLR inputs for balanced equipment and an RS232 interface for home automation systems.
Controllability is also good with the on-screen display as well as an illuminated remote control.
Build Quality
As with the rest of the BasX series, the BasX MC1 is more solidly built than you would expect at this price. The advanced switch mode power supply is kept well away from the signal processing board. Moreover, the hi-grade PCBs are at the back of the unit, where all the connectors are. This keeps the signal path as short as possible. The high speed HDMI video switching is also fed directly, without any extraneous processing. This is an audiophile component with no compromise performance.
What is eARC?
The HDMI interface has been around for about twenty years and has undergone various iterations. It can now handle up to 12K video as well as higher frame rates. It replaced the old SCART connector and is used as a means of sending high quality audio and video to an amplifier or TV. ARC stands for Audio Return Channel and will send the sound components without the need for a separate cable. However, support for multi channel sound was patchy with ARC, hence eARC. eARC is the latest ARC standard and supports multi-channel audio. It also allows for uncompressed high bit rate audio transfer.
What is Dolby Atmos and DTX:S?
Dolby Atmos and DTS:x are both 3D surround sound encoding systems. Dolby Atmos is widely used in cinemas and has been available in home systems since 2016. The original sound mix can have up to 128 channels that also have position data associated with them. In this way they can be “steered” to a particular speaker. This creates a 3D soundscape that has different sound “objects” placed in it. HD Blu-ray discs often come with Dolby Atmos soundtracks. Dolby Atmos systems can have up to thirteen speakers in home systems. These include height channels as well as stereo rear surround channels. DTX:s is similar to Dolby Atmos it can have up to 32 speaker configurations in home cinema systems.
