Product Description
The Graham Slee Solo Ultra Linear Diamond Edition is Graham Slee's flagship headphone amplifier and boy does it let music flow, one of the finest headphones listening partners we've ever heard. At points where the musicians and vocalists throw everything into the mix, the Solo Ultra Linear headphone amplifier handles it all with ease without losing the plot.
Cast Aside Sharp Glare
At last, this is a headphone amp that does away with the sharp glaring edginess so common in today's other models. It replaces this with all the music - all its scale, power and emotion. However one chooses to define "all the music", the Solo Ultra Linear headphone amplifier does it that way!
Why is this headphone amplifier so special?
So what's the Solo Ultra Linear secret? While there are many secrets, the most important one in this instance is that distortion is kept consistently low all throughout the entire audio spectrum. This is because the bandwidth is extraordinarily wide before the application of "negative feedback".
Above and Beyond Standard Solid State Headphone Amplifiers
Standard solid state headphone amps tend to utilises negative feedback to fix distortion and noise as well as to widen the bandwidth. All this results in is additional glare. The high frequencies also impact the sound at bass and mid frequencies because the leading edge of a note is quick - if high frequencies are distorted, many of the nuances found in the bass and mid frequencies are lost. This particular headphone amp improves on distortion linearly throughout the complete audio band, resulting in the sound stage coming alive to a degree you have never heard before.
Greater Input Linearity
Another one of the Solo Ultra Linear secrets is greater input linearity: usually a solid state amp cannot take much input signal before it is overdriven when it distorts badly and a huge amount of negative feedback would have to be added to fix it. This results ins restructured music that does not quite satisfy the listener. The “no negative feedback" claim can’t be entirely true as if that were the case you would only hear distortion.
Like most headphone amps, the Ultra Linear is basically a pair of transistor assisted op-amps, but these feature one of the best output stages ever designed. As stated by J L Linsley Hood, it is class A and the output stages remain the most musical. Additional proprietary open-loop bandwidth widening technique that results in a breathtaking difference.

This is an excellent headphone amp. For the price, it’s very unlikely you could get better. In fact I think it’s unlikely you could get anything better for twice the price. I use mine with a pair of Beyerdynamic T5 headphones and I am frequently surprised by the depth and detail of the sound. Listening is a simple joy.
