Product Description
HiFi Man HE400SE open back planar headphones are designed for comfort, durability and performance. They are lightweight, have a full frequency response and use HiFi Man’s Planar technology to increase the audio quality.
What is Planar?
These Planar headphones have conductive layers that cover nearly the entire diaphragm to significantly lower distortion, unlike regular diaphragms where only a section of it is utilised.
Stealth Magnet
The stealth magnets shape enables waves to pass through with generating interference. Combined with HiFi Man’s advanced magnet design, wave diffraction is reduced, which results in a full-range and accurate output.
Maximised Comfort
The HE400SE headphones have a lightweight headband so that you can wear them for hours and still be comfortable. The outer casing helps better durability against the elements.
Durable Connections
HiFi Man’s HE-400SE comes with a dual sided high-performance 3.5mm cable and a 6.35mm adapter for compatibility with a wider range of products.

I've tried the Sundara and returned them because of a couple QC issues, but these HE400SE's are built like tanks. The amazing thing to me is that they cost just over half the price of the Sundara's... yet imho they sound 95% as good. They have close to the same level of clarity. Maybe a bit less bass punch, but it's tight and controlled and responds well to an EQ if you need more. The highs suit me better... virtually the same detail but somehow a bit smoother and less fatiguing.
Comfort wise the pads are amazing, but as they are quite heavy the headband can pinch after a will, but it's nothing a slight adjustment/movement can't fix. I have Grados, Meze 99 Neos, X2HR, HD599SE, and AKG K371's now gathering dust.
The perfect entry into the world of Planars. I would however recommend having a decent amp for them to sound their best.
