Product Description
The PLiXiR Cube 8 BAC Balanced Power Conditioner, balanced power conditioner, is an eight output unit, and is more affordable than the flagship Elite 3000. It can deliver up to 2280w of power overall, and uses a Noratel made transformer for optimal performance. The unit is designed to deliver as as possible power to all of your audio devices, allowing them to perform at their best. The isolation transformer is balanced and provides a natural barrier to noise. Moreover the precision machined case provides a solid mounting for the transformer that resists vibration. True balanced power needs every component in the power chain to be balanced. Therefore PliXiR also produced custom DC power supplies and the necessary interconnecting cables.
Cost effective performance
The Cube 8 BAC series uses audio grade balanced transformers from Noratel. These naturally have high immunity to noise on the power lines. Moreover, the Cube 8 BAC is powerful enough to handle high-power amplifiers and AV receivers, up to 450W into 4 ohms. It improves the current delivery as well as eliminates noise. The transformer only has a single winding, as opposed to the multi-voltage winding normally seen. This results in negligible ground loop currents. Ideal for high gain units such as turntables.
Features
The Cube 8 BAC has eight low noise outlets for even the most complicated system. Next, the custom wound Noratel transformer is audio grade and naturally rejects noise. The single primary winding is for 240 volts, and ensures that ground loop currents are eliminated. Moreover there is a binding post so that you can connect a ground cable from your turntable, to further reduce hum pickup. This version of the cube has no on-off switch to reduce the cost and number of connections.
Why balanced power?
Balanced power can only be achieved if every component in the power supply chain is balanced. PliXiR components are all deigned to work together as a system. The system uses a mains conditioner as well as upgraded DC power supplies, and the interconnecting cables. The result is a truly balanced power delivery with a natural immunity to noise.
How does power conditioning work?
There are two factors in power conditioning, the first is the rectification and conversion of AC mains into clean DC. The second is the grounding arrangement of the cables. Ideally the rectification circuits should receive a clean AC supply from the mains. However in realty, there is all kinds of noise and hash on the lines. All the miles of power cables outside can act as aerials dragging in noise. Moreover, domestic appliances can also put noise into the house wiring. All this noise pollution can get into your audio equipment degrading the sound.
System grounding
System ground is a confusing issue as there are actually two ground systems with different uses. The first is safety earth this is used to protect the end user and connects any metal parts to earth. As a result if any live wires touches the case there is a massive current flow and the fuse or trip will blow. The other grounding system provides a zero refence point for the audio circuits. Audio signals swing to either side of the zero reference and any offset or noise will upset the operation of any amplification circuits. Ideally the different grounds should be electrical separated, but this in not always the case. To solve this problem PliXiR use an isolation transformer.
Common mode noise rejection is improved and the live and neutral wires become out of phase due to the transformer. This cancels out any noise and is similar to the way Balanced XLR audio leads work.
